“This shows directly what is possible when growers support a local company”

says Director of Apex Greenhouses, Folco Faber in Australia. “When the profits from greenhouse projects stay in Australia, we can reinvest them locally for the direct benefit of growers and the industry as a whole.”

After more than 20 years in the Australian market, Apex Greenhouses is constructing a new purpose built 2,500sqm facility to be able to better serve its Australian customers.

The building has been completely designed, manufactured and constructed in house using traditional greenhouse and service building construction methods.

“It will not be as impressive or nearly as costly as some of the newer offices you see from other greenhouse companies in other parts of the world, it will however be completely fit for purpose. Cost effective, comfortable and eye catching with a mix of the best greenhouse materials on the market. I think it will demonstrate very well what is possible now in terms of integrating office spaces and service buildings using sandwich panels and glass with a Venlo roof system” says Folco.

In addition, there is a 1,000sqm demonstration glasshouse integrated into the building. This greenhouse has been supported by some of Apex’s longstanding partners including BOAL Systems for the aluminum, West Nederland for the sandwich panels and Snelder for the ventilation and shade screen mechanisms. A double layer of Svensson screen cloths will be used as well as Hinova Ventilation Jets. Planti supplied the double AR coated diffused glass. The facility is in the heart of Australia’s largest greenhouse concentration in Virginia, South Australia.

At this point the internal fit out of the greenhouse is yet to be finalized. “We are in discussions with several parties as to what will be best approach for the fit out of this greenhouse but we are open to proposals. We also have interest from several research institutes and seed companies who wish to be involved. The main point is this greenhouse will be accessible and open for all to come and visit-to see what is possible in a high-tech glasshouse facility as well as showcasing what Apex can do to assist growers.”
